I have only one film on Jimi Hendrix, and that's the Jimi Hendrix Movie (WB) that was re-released a few years ago on a double sided DVD.
I just bought, last night, the Eagle Rock's (Rhino) "Electric Ladyland" DVD, and I'm going to watch that tonight...
We have Isle Of Wight (Angel), ummm...Woodstock, Gypsies (Fillmore)... Tons of others, and I even found a Rhino of Rainbow, which is only partly Jimi material...
Has anyone bought a lot of Jimi on DVD lately, and what did you think? :)

I absolutely love the Electric Ladyland disc. It runs longer than the version that aired on VH-1.
I have the same Hendrix movie, from 1973, and the Isle of Wight disc. I don't watch either of them, really. Isle of Wight was not a happy affair and it shows. I have Jimi's Woodstock on laserdisc so I'm less inspired to get that one.
I would like to get the Dick Cavett disc with Jimi.

Scott--I have them all and you need the "Band Of Gypsys" Fillmore DVD. Not only do you get lots on fascinating background on the band, but you discover Jimi's post-Experience state of mind and the importance of Billy and Buddy to his new sound and new songs. Get the DVD for bonus black and white footage from the Fillmore shows. It was taped on the inhouse video system and even though the video quality is a bit rough, Jimi and the band more than make up for it with stellar performances. I would avoid "Blue Wild Angel/Isle Of Wight" unless you plan on getting them all. It is not one of Jimi's best performances and at times, it is tough to watch.

Gotcha. Yes, I saw the internal video at the Fillmore. It's on the WB Warner's Hendrix movie, yeah?
Thanks for the ideas. Gypsies is on my list.
I assume you have the Monterey Pop dvds. Those are probably my favorite Hendrix videos, although I do love watching him play the acoustic 12 string.
Has anyone seen the Rainbow Bridge disc? How is that?

Hendrix on DVD is becoming more and more common, the new BEREKLEY COMMUNITY CENTER is a fair DVD for the video, but the 5.1 audio only extra is well worth the price. And don't forget that WOODSTOCK is coming out in 5.1 real soon, that will certainly compliment the MONTEREY POP on Criterion and the 5.1 version of BLUE WILD ANGEL. These are some great times for fans of Hendrix on video.

Actually no, I recently bought a music DVD (I can't remeber which one) with a little catalog in it with upcoming releases. The WOODTOCK in 5.1 was projected to be released in the fall of 2003. Amazon.com has already withdrawn orders for the stereo only DVD of this title.

I just found the insert, it is the DVD of Roger Waters THE WALL. The insert says that the new catalog number will be MCADV 11988.

I'm not a Jimi expert by any means, just a fan...
I have The Dick Cavett Show which is nice... Jimi seem very tired, but I really believe he was a groovy, nice guy. This is (I think) later stuff and he performs "Izabella", "Machine Gun", and "Hear My Train A comin'".
I also have "Experience Jimi Hendrix" and this is a bit more fun, more variety. Everything sounds great, and this is a mini anthology type of collection of the early years. Lots of fun. Again, he seemed like a very sweet guy, I'm so sorry he's not around anymore.
I'd recommend anything that Experience Hendrix authorized, they (to me) seem to be doing a good job of clearing the vaults and not ****ing up the sound too much.

I agree Mike, Experience Hendrix does a darn good job in spite of what some detractors say about the manner in which his relatives have managed Jimi's legacy. Most of the video mastering is superb and the involvement of Jimi's long time sound man Eddie Kramer insures a credible product that respects the artist's work.
