I have a Zenith M52W56LCD rear LCD projector, connected to a big Monster filter bank.

My previous Charter cable box worked OK via HDMI to DVI, then it stopped working (no picture).
Changed to DISH, their box shows a picture, but skewed to the right.
Just got an Oppo 980 DVD, picture looks centered but there is a moving rainbow band all around the outside. This is using a different new HDMI-DVI cable.

The DISH technician connected a tester and blamed improper ground. Hmm, maybe. The outlet is only 2-prong and the Monster filter should be 3. What do you all think? I don't want to pay for an electrician if unnecessary.

Or is it probably the TV, maybe damaged by power surge (common here, lost an iMac that way)?

I find that HDMI devices often don't work properly with other ones, particularly when one is older with a DVI plug. The ealier versions of HDMI are rather half-baked. Are you sure that your DVI input is HDMI? Some early ones are not. I'd say HDMI has a strong chance of being your culprit.

When you have HDMI problems and contact companies, they tend to tell you that the other guy's device must be the problem.

I agree with Rachael.

I would say just use component, and save yourself the headaches. Very unlikely there is any difference in picture quality.

I agree with Rachael and Sam. HDMI is a can of worms. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
