I saw some Computer 3" Cd-R's a couple of days ago,and it got me thinking..can these be good for, say,Photo Storage? And,can they be played on DVD Players,as well as DVD-R Drives too? (Cold a Gort change the heading so that it reads "Computer CD-R's",Please?THANX!!)Michael Boyce
They're worthless the first time you encounter a slot-load drive..

They work as good as standard 5" DVD-R's and CD-R's, and they do play on normal DVD players. Good format for small sized DVD-A's.

I disagree with Jon above. The 3" CD is a dead format, either for CD-Rs, DVD-R, or anything else. Too many devices won't play them, and full-size discs are cheaper and more widely available. The lack of playability in slot-loading drives is the biggest nail in their coffin.
I agree that the 3" CDs & DVDs had some sex appeal, but the reality is that they don't make sense in 2008.

you have a point...In my case I use them for my Sony Mavica digital camera...Since I can view the pics on my PC from the camera itself...I don't need to play them on any drives other than te drive contained within the camera...The 3 incher was a neat idea, but...
oh yea, they have those 5" ringy thingys that the 3" CDR's snap into..making them full size.

I remember those. Rhino handed those out when they released several dozen 3" oldies reissue CDs in the late 1980s (all of which I bought). God help you if the ring fell off inside any CD player.
While 3" CDs were somewhat successful for singles in Asia (and are still used for some releases), they didn't do very well in most parts of the world. I know they're prized collectors' items by some people, like with the Beatles' 3" single box.
Still, recording a 3" CD-R or DVD-R is actually more expensive than doing it on a regular 4-7/8" full-sized disc, and the latter holds a lot more, too. I used to know the Japanese word that applied to "the beauty of small things," but I think it's impractical for data storage.

my old sony mavica digital cameras use the 3 inchers. I would not use them for anything else. a neat novelty, but I agree impractical for music storage.:)

I've used them for for storing compressed audio files on although you've only got 210Mb on CD-R's.

What is so odd is the 3" DVD is so common these days and yet those 5" adapters are no longer available. At least in the CD3 era, you could even buy them, even if you didn't buy Rhino Little bit o gold series.

They'll fit in a standard safe deposit box (if you want to archive data). But USB memory sticks have rendered that moot.
