I just bought the first season set used and there seem to be no caption options.Did someone sell me a bootleg set?These are listed on all the U.S. retail sites as being closed captioned.Thanks in advace for any replies

DVDCompare.net lists the R1 set having CC. Did you buy this off of eBay? If so do you have a link to the auction?

I bought it from an amazon used seller-doesn't look like a pirated disc but it could be.

There is no menu option, but if your television has CC options the discs are encoded. On my Sony TV the caption option is CC1. Hope that helps.

I do that too. I often find that the white-on-black CC on my Sony TV is actually more legible than the disc-native CC.

Thanks,that explains it.Now to figure out how to get my European tv to do closed captions-seems to be a different system.

They don't, you need to get a separate CC decoder for this to work on European TV sets. The other option is to view the film through your computer. You can access the CC option through that.
