I want to make a CD for my wife of tunes that sound awesome with headphones. She loves to listen to music with headphones while she reads. Can anyone give me any suggestions?
Chris,
One that I've always liked alot through head phones and it's mellow is Planet Caravan by Black Sabbath on the Paranoid album sort of a dreamy type of tune.
By the way, still waiting how's the list coming? Thought of another one Billy Thorpes Children Of The Sun.

I'm not 100% sure if she will listen to Black Sabbath or Led Zepplin with headphones while she reads...

Chris, you can try Gordon Lightfoot. Anything - Endless Summer, Gord's Gold, etc. I also suggest Loreena McKinnet (I think that's how it's spelt). Celtic type stuff. Very quiet - she actualy plays the harp but it's NOT harp music.
I know some ladies that only like female singers, so ask yourself: What type of music does she like? She may not like Lightfoot!
How about Beatles - just the hits, of course. Others from the '60's? Joni Mitchell? Carol King? Sinatra? I suggest you look for a "mood" to complete the CD.... quiet happy type stuff maybe?
Ummmm - for Black Sabbath or Zep, it's beeeeg fight time. Don't do it! I'm sure they were joking...
Good luck! Your next month's (or more)happiness, peace, companionship, food, music listening, etc. may depend on it (you're sure you want to do this, right ;) ).
I've found that most women don't really care for music as we do. My wife came down to the dungeon in Sept. to hear my new set up. Was suitably impressed. Never came back.
*sigh*
Planet Caravan is "perfect"...please...don't jump to conclusions, just by seeing it's by Black Sabbath! Soothing is my description for this song.
You could play this song in an "elevator" and not offend anyone, trust me, Dave's right! :D
OK, Pat I'll pull it out and check it out. It's been a while since I've listeded to any Sabbath!
Thanks!
Thanks Pat,
I knew someone else must have known what I meant. Another one I just thought of is Rushs Madrigal from A Farewell To Kings

Dave,
Not to start a "mutual admiration society" or nuthin'...but Rush is a good one as well! Another great headphoney song I'd pick is ELP-Just Take A Pebble from the S/Titled CD. I love the vocal delay in that one. Maybe some Hendrix-Angel or Little Wing thrown in for good measure. Many groups that were known as Heavy Metal/Progressive, etc, had songs that were mellow on their albums.

Mutually agreed with Patman.

Well of Souls - Steve Roach & Vidria Obmana.
Soothing, no lyrics, no real melodies in the usual sense, might be ideal since she's reading.
Opera Sauvage - Vangelis
Not of this Earth - Joe Satriani
These have more accessible tunes, but still no lyrics.
Just some thoughts, since I don't think I could read and headphone listen at the same time.

i rarely listen on headphones but i tell you what; vincent gallo's album when is beyond words through headphones! the way he uses stereo on the album is amazing, especially for being a mono lover. i dont know if you're familiar with vince but if you know anything about him he's quite in love with himself, and has also probably been thought of as an ******e. i think its funny though, because i dont think he even takes it serious. anyhow his voice is pretty damn good for his personality, and besides chicks like him. but the album is very soothing, maybe sad, but pretty touching and sounds great through headphones.
