Hi,

I've got WinDVD and Windows Media Player installed on a "Region 2" laptop, and each will only allow me to play Region 1 discs a limited number of times (3 or 4).

Anyone know a way around this, for unlimited viewings of alternate region discs? Or another DVD viewing program that is region free?

I've done the standard searches, and any first-hand experience would help!

Thanks,

Rick

Google for dvd genie..

I've used it before, and it works fine...Otherwise, you can use certain "backup" software to remove the region coding on a copy..

Other option, that I recommend, and do myself, is to get two burners (they are so cheap these days) and lock one to your country, and the other to whatever other region is most popular...

I have one on region 4 and one on 1.

Good answer. Software is the only way to circumvent this issue, as all RPC-2 drives can only be reset a certain of times (20) even if you know how to overcome the 4 "region changes" limit.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the tips! VLC is working great, if only I could get the volume as high as WinDVD and WMP seem to go.

Anyway, a great little program, and exactly what I needed.

I think the volume in VLC is at medium level by default. You can turn it up with the mouse or the keyboard (Ctrl+Up Arrow)
