I was watching "Hot Rods to Hell" last night. Hilariously corney 60s Movie about a family 'terrorized' by Hod Rodders. Anyone remember this one? Bad to the Bone but some VERY cool cars including a '58 Corvette.

What are some of your favorite movies featuring Cool Cars?

"Bullit" with Steve McQueen is a great care flick I allways enjoy seeing again.
The "Gone in 60 Seconds" is pretty good too.

It's a Love-in for Herbie... the incredible little car who shifts for himself.

The already mentioned Bullitt & Vanishing Point are classics. Some others I enjoy are American Graffiti, Grand Prix, Thunder Road, Mad Max and although animated, Cars is pretty darn skippy.

"Grand Prix" is arguably the greatest racing film ever done. Of course, this has been mentioned here before.
And, what a beautiful soundtrack! Wow!!!

This is a good thread, too! Thanks for that! "Bullitt" was fantastic, with more than likely, the greatest chase scene ever filmed. Of course, "Ronin" (also directed by John Frankenheimer - director of "Grand Prix"), featured a wonderful chase scene. Actually; the camera mounts used in "Grand Prix", were again, used in "Ronin".

"Vanishing Point" was nuts! I'll never forget that! Bulldozer - 1, Challenger - 0.

I certainly remember, "Hot Rods to Hell". :) Also; one of my favorites as a kid was, "The Lively Set" with James Darren, and Pamela Tiffin.

"The Gumball Rally", and "The Cannonball Run" movies were a conglomeration of the actual, Cannonball Baker Sea-To-Shining-Sea Memorial Trophy Dash, that took place a few years from NYC to California.

"The most remarkable effort certainly was by American racing legend and winner of the 1967 24 hours of Le Mans, Dan Gurney, winning the second run in a Ferrari Daytona. Dan himself put it best, saying: "At no time did we exceed 175 mph." With Brock Yates as co-driver, it took them 35 hours and 54 minutes to travel 2863 miles at an average of approximately 80 mph, while collecting one fine. Snow in the Rockies slowed them down considerably."

It really leaves little doubt that Steve McQueen was the 'King of Cool'! :)

Bullitt is a classic, as is Grand Prix.

I also like original Italian Job, LeMans (w/ McQueen), Bobby Deerfield has some moments.

Cars was also really fun, if you get the inside jokes, plus it was a fun movie. Anyone who has watched a Formula 1 race knows that Italian fans ("Tifosi") view there are two types of cars in the world: :"Ferraris and non-Ferraris!".:D

Absolutely! :righton: And, it still bugs me that, "Cars" didn't get the Oscar for best Animated Feature!

Being a Cadillac buff I really like "Tin Men", lots of late 50's early 60's finned giants in that one. "Coupe De Ville". That one features a baby blue 1954 series 62 convertible.

The movie "WINNING" deserves mention here. Starring Paul Newman, Joanne Woodward, and Robert Wagner it includes footage of the 17-car wreck at the 1968 Indy 500.

Bullitt was arguably the greatest car chase scene in history. The rest of the movie was pretty good also. Grand Prix had some awesome scenes in it. Too bad I was too young to see them in the theaters... I was just a toddler in the 60's... There's also Days of Thunder with Tom Cruise.

I just saw in the latest Antique Car that Thunder Road is celebrating it's 50th anniversary.

For a more humorous film, with older cars, I always loved The Great Race.
