This was a disappointing week. It just came in yesterday, and I was really anticipating this one. In a word, it sucks. Way too much bass.
It's a hit or miss proposition, isn't it? My MFSL Rush/Moving Pictures is a billiant piece of work, and Abraxas and The Low Spark Of High-Heeled Boys are great. I'm reaching a point where I think I should just wait till I get my new system next year, so I can play my records.
Pig,
Is this the UD2 by chance? Please take my advice on this one. All UDCD #'s before UDCD 568 (Queen A Night At The Opera) should preferably be UD1, avoid the UD2 pressings as they all suck in comparison with the UD1's. After that until about UDCD 595 and even some after 595 are a mixed bag some3 great, some suck.

If you're looking for the best sounding CD version of "Silk Degrees", you should seek out the Columbia Mastersound Gold CD, 20-bit/SBM mastered by Doug Sax on tube equipment. He also mastered the original vinyl, so it sounds the closest to the original 1-A LP pressings.

Dave, it's the UD2. Thanks for the info.
Luke, I'm on it, probably will pick it up this Sunday. I'm sure there's someone out there who would like this cd...it's not that bad.

I have the UD1 version, and it's the same. It's really up there on the bottom end.

Boz's last name is "Scaggs" not "Skaggs." The latter is how country and bluegrass artist Ricky Skaggs spells his name. Boz and Ricky are not even related.

It's a nasty habit I'm trying to break. ;)
I've found a use for the CD. No, I'm not taking it to the nearest used gold dealer. It actually sounds great from my amplified Sennheiser HD580s.
I guess the weeks catch wasn't so bad after all, as my DCC Elton John's Greatest Hits came in as well. Your Song is absolutely amazing. I would never expect such clarity and richness out of such an old track. That disc is definitely waaaay up there on my list!

How's the volume level of the Scagg's disc from Mastersound? I have the standard Best Of and the MFSL and I really have to crank the volume on my system. Now I am certainly not a "louder is always better" type person, but I just noticed that Boz's stuff was mastered rather quiet compared to most stuff.

The best sound is on Sony's Boz Scagg Anthology (2 CD set)... the first choice for sound! Much better than the Mofi remaster...
