I just saw a commercial for this movie and it looks kind of funny...

I have to admit that I was not impressed at all with the trailer....I think I turned to my friend and rolled my eyes. But it was co-written by Judd Apatow, who has been on a tear as of late, so I'll probably give it a shot. Hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised.

But it was co-written by Judd Apatow...
That's the key reason I'll be going to a theater to see it. I haven't seen anything of Apatow's yet that I disliked.

Paul Rudd, Jack Black, Justin Long & Jason Schwartzman as the Beatles. 'Nuff said.
I can't wait to see this. You can hear the title song here:

A very interesting piece that will teach you how to properly eat an ice cone and to work wood.

Looks interesting. We'll see if John C. Reilly can carry a movie instead of just being the sidekick. Loved him in Talladega Nights.... I'm keeping an open mind on this.

Who's doing Jenna's singing? I've heard that voice SOMEWHERE......but I can't place it.

I liked the commercial for Dewey Cox breakfast sausage:
"It's not Cox...until I say it tastes like Cox!"

John C. Reilly always makes me laugh. Check out the DVD outtakes from Boogie Nights and Talladega Nights for a sampling of his improv skills.
"I envision Jesus as a shape-shifting changeling, you know, like Manimal."
I think this is gonna be another big hit for Apatow.

Marshall Crenshaw sure could use the extra exposure if it hits. For me, the trailer screams 'cult favorite', but I am really pulling for it. I'd love to see Reilly carry a hit film.

Mike Viola (Candy Butchers, voice of "The Wonders") has been writing the songs for this film. That alone has my ears perked up!

yeah, i know it's low-brow, buts it's seems so-full of music geekery, I can't believe more folks on the board aren't interested. I mean "The Beatles" are in it for crying out loud! So far I see the Elvis, Beatles, Brian Wilson, Jim Morrison, Johnny Cash, The Band, Bob Dylan visual references. Dewey goes Disco AND Punk...

I worked on the final sequence in the film where after a long absence Dewy and Co return with one final opus.
The song they perform, BEAUTIFUL RIDE has been bouncing around in my head ever since.
I just picked up the soundtrack today and have listened to it (the song NOT the whole cd) about 15 times in a row.
I am attending a screening of it tonight so I'm not gonna listen to any more of it until then but I have been so pumped about it for so long that it can only be a let down at this point.
I hope not

It's been a long time since 'music-satire' has been given THIS much of a push. I'll have to go.

According to the MTV article that was posted here, the singing voice is one Angela Correa, an indie singer that has released two albums through CD Baby.

Reilly was on "Fresh Air" the other day and they played a number of the songs. They were very good, and Reilly's singing wasn't bad either.

I have read that this film is a scene-by-scene parody of "Walk The Line".

I'll be watching this thread. All I've seen is the trailer and it really gets on my nerves. Talladega Nights really surprised me. I was really expecting to hate it, but it was really funny. I'm anxious to see what you guys think about this one.

This looks much funnier than Talladega Nights, which hardly made me laugh. I've always enjoyed John C. Reilly as an actor. He's not too over the top, like Will Farrell.

Well, gentlemen, I just got back from a screening, and I have to say I really liked this film a lot. This thing was clearly aimed at music geeks like us. (How many films would make reference to someone learning to play the Theremin??)
To Jack White: No, it's not a complete spoof of Walk the Line, but that's definitely the main inspiration at work here. But throw in bits and pieces and every cliche from just about every music biopic you've ever seen (especially Ray), and you kinda get the idea of what they're going for. Plus, of course, lots of "Cox" jokes. Lowbrow, but still funny. The typical Apatow fair, with the typical Apatow crew along for the ride. If that's your cup of tea, you'll be pleased. Oh, and for those disappointed by the trailer, recall of course that they can't even really show the best stuff (as is the case, in my opinion, with most of his movies - I've never been impressed with the trailers).
I actually really can't wait to hear some of the reaction from fellow forum members.

It was funnier when Bob and Tom did almost the exact same song years ago. What is Apatow and co. thinking??
http://lyricsplayground.com/alpha/songs/b/blowmeakiss.shtml
And which is funnier? Adam Sandler punching out Bob Barker or Reilly punching out Patrick Duffy?
This isn't just a shot-by-shot remake of "Walk the Line" - it's a joke for joke robbery of other comedy films! Pathetic.
