:) This is very interesting casting as J.J. Abrams & Paramount try to reboot the Star Trek franchise with fresh faces in iconic roles going back four decades. I hope it works, as Star Trek could use a fresh perspective on Gene Roddenberry's original vision!

Huh? Spock's mother was human. Are they willing to mess with the whole mythos just to put Winona Ryder in pointy ears? :thumbsdn:

I believe that "Vulcan Mother" bit in the announcement was a publicist's typo!!! At least I hope so!!!:righton:
Who's playing the young Nurse Chapel?

Whoever plays Nurse Christine Chapel, I hope she's as hot looking as Majel Barrett Roddenberry was in the original series!:pineapple:

I don't think so. There was reference to the controversy in the article.

Just a typo. Panic not:
(The Variety.com article states that Ryder will play "the Vulcan mother of Spock," but this error was corrected in the print version of Daily Variety this morning.)

I wonder what her 'method acting' for this role will require? She shoplifted previously for a role (her defence, apparently), so...

You gotta say Winona has aged very well. Still a great looking girl.
