My brother found this turntable in the trash marked $5.00 from a yard sale. It says direct drive quartz lock but all references online says belt drive? Anyone have any idea what this is worth. Still needs to get a new cartridge.

If you lift off the platter and look, it should end the debate... almost instantly. I carry belts, by the way. Let me know if you need a belt.
This thing, if working as new with good functioning cartridge, cleaned up and restored, should fetch around $50.00-$100.00 in the used/refurbed market.. I think It may be belt-drive since they seem to sell belts for it online..Rolf.
Should look like this photo below..

Has Marantz ever been known for TT?

Here is a picture of the turntable in question. And the platter was removed revealing no belt.

It looks a bit like a TT made by Technics.

That's a "cheapie" farmed out by Marantz just so they'd be able to include a turntable with their mass-market "component rack systems". It'll play a record, and that's about it. Don't expect to spin serious vinyl with it. Worth every penny of that $5.00 price tag.
I have a Marantz 6300 TT. It's direct drive model.
If yours still has the original 45 RPM adaptor (like that shown in the first reply) you will see a dot and an arrow on it. This is for setting the VTA.
Aim the arrow to the rear of the TT and then the tip of the stylus should align right on top of the dot so the cartridge will be aligned properly. Make sure the cartrdige is in alignment (parallel) with the headshell and it's all set.

This TT is a later model than the 6200 Belt drive.
Your TT belongs to the Philips era (1979-2002) and it's a direct drive, but are your sure about the reference, I think the model you're talking about is a 6020 (not sure).
The Philips era is not the best period for Marantz
If you want a good Marantz TT, check for the 6300 or 6320. The 6320 is a 6300 with no arm and fully manual.
