One of the most impressive things about the Badfinger DCC discs was the dramatic difference in sound quality of the bonus tracks which on both No Dice and Straight Up sounded pretty awful on the standard disc. I was hoping Steve would have slipped in the Al Kooper Name of the Game as a bonus track on Straight Up kind of like he did on Steve Miller's Greatest Hits with another track. Although I'm lucky enough to have a copy of it, I read that for a recent compilation they were specifically searching for the Al Kooper master of that song and it was "misplaced."

Every bit of Badfinger that I mastered, bonus tracks and all, had to be approved by EMI's "quality control" department.

So, what can one do?

Did they make you, for a lack of a better term, "dumb down" your work for them in terms of sound, or did it just mean they had tight controls on the actual content of what went out?

Those guys kill me with their idea of quality control!!

Good thing they didn't "control" the quality right back out as Steve was bringing it in. His still sounds better in spite of EMI's "quality control" !! :p

Douglas,

Sorry not to be clear.

They did not dictate what kind of sound I could use. They just wanted to make sure the CONTENT matched their disc.

For the record (pun intended), no record company or artist EVER asked me to "dumb down" anything (yet).... ;)
