Cartoon buffs might want to take a look at the Fox and Crow cartoons at YouTube - I don't recall seeing any Columbia Pictures cartoons on TV growing up. Fox and Grapes and a few others are up right now: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2d4PfDCbx8
Way Down Yonder in the Corn is also posted: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_YPRW00REQw
I've seen most of the Fox and Crows, but almost all of them I've had access to have timecodes running - these are free of those pesky numbers.

I have about 4 in my collection free of timecodes in pretty poor quality, thanks for the link. It's a pity as the timecoded prints are pristine, it was done obviously to prevent $1 DVD companies from releasing the material.

You're not the only one. I'm almost 33, and while I was treated to alot of "classics" back in the day (hell, I even got to see some Harveytoons on some of the more local stations up at my uncle's place!), I have NEVER seen any Columbia toons before.

Thanks for the link! Interesting animation style.

PS...I like the youtube poster's description: "A Tragic tale of Love, Loss, and Corn." :D

BTW- it should be mentioned that Frank Tashlin created Fox & Crow, the first 2-3 are his. I've also seen a John Hubley(!!) Fox & Crow titled Robin Hoodlum.

The Fox & Crow 'toons vary wildly depending on the director. Chuck Jones mentions in "Chuck Amuck" that The Coyote & Roadrunner are basically Tashlin Fox&Crow rip-offs (2 characters to frame a series of blackout gags around). After Tashlin left Columbia's cartoon studio they were handed off to other directors. Consistency of character was totally lost at this point.

Bob Wickersham directed a lot of The Fox and Crow shorts - they're for the most part good, solid cartoons. Alex Lovy directed Grape Nutty, and that's a funny short. Here's a link to a site devoted to Columbia Cartoons: http://columbia.goldenagecartoons.com/foxcrow/
