The truth is STILL out there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

X-Cellent: Scully and Mulder Finally Reunited!

X-Files: The Movie courtesy 20th Century Fox
The truth isn't out there, it's right here: X-Files leading man David Duchovny recently hooked up with Gillian Anderson and their former series' creator, Chris Carter, to discuss a second movie follow-up, SCI FI Wire reports. (Go ahead and plotz. I'll wait.) "It was more emotional than I would have thought it was [going to be]," he said of the confab. "If you spend that much time with people and go through that much, there's a lot of residual feeling."

X-2 is tentatively scheduled to shoot in December, with Carter directing from a script that he penned with X-phile Frank Spotnitz. "I want us to go out and do what the show always did best, which is really smart, scary, ultimately ambiguous stuff," Duchovny said. "There's been a lot of shows and movies that kind of tread the same area, or tried to, and I think we always did it best. And I hope we can go out and do it best again."

...and this time, he's in search of the relevance of a series which ended 5 years ago without paying-off...

I hope they can undo all the damage done to the series during the L.A. years after the first movie. It turned into an incoherent mess that jumped the shark badly.

Ouch, baby!
More to the point, with all the fun, cool secondary characters DEAD, what CAN they do??

I love the show and watched it from the beginning, but did get a little impatient with it the last couple years because it was getting too tangled up with vague government conspiracy issues.

i really liked the last couple of seasons and i thought Robert Patrick did a great job... i stayed with it and enjoyed it 'til the end and sometimes i feel like i'm the only one.:hide:

I stayed with it too, and felt like by the time I had all the answers they were prepared to give us, none of them really mattered.

The last few episodes of the the series made it quite clear that there were more important things to worry about than an alien invasion (which was just a maguffin). Like love and the sheer wonder of being alive. Of course they made mistakes and produced lemons over 9 seasons (can you imagine if The Sopranos had to produce 22 shows every 12 months?) but the later seasons were full of good work and I think they are capable of it again.

They kind of lost me in the final 2 seasons. Though it's no fault of Robert Patrick who I thought was much better than the material he was working with.

In my view the last two seasons had some decent episodes but it wasn't the same. (I refer to last two seasons as X-files: The Next Generation.)

Hope the movie is a flashback to the fourth or fifth season.

Ironic, isn't it, that just when his career seems on the up with Californication, he gets the call to make X-Files Two?

I hope they don't bring back that many characters from the show and just make this second movie as a stand-alone film by itself. OK, maybe "Cancer Man" (or was he "Cigarette-smoking Man"?).

OK, maybe "Cancer Man" (or was he "Cigarette-smoking Man"?).

He was killed in the series finale. Mulder, Scully, and Skinner are essentially the only characters left alive. Even the Lone Gunmen were killed off in their spin-off show. There's Dogget and Reyes but I really don't care to have them back, at leat not in a prominent role in the story.

He was killed in the series finale.

I think I lost interest by that time.

Good thing this is a stand alone movie and it is supposed to be pretty darn scary (at least the script is at this stage).

Yes, the show did jump the shark and lost my interest for the most part by the time they moved to L.A.

However, I did like parts of seasons 8 and 9 with Robert Patrick. It seemed like a fresh series. The parts of these seaons that didn't work for me were those that referred back to the previous story arc and seasons 6 & 7.

I say Dogget and Reyes, or one of them, got/gets killed and that's part of the storyline that reintroduces Mulder...just a guess.
