Here's a poll for you that borders on being political. ;) I've brought this question up in other places and it always evokes a strong response: which actor do you prefer most playing James Bond?
Vote for your favorite and post here with your thoughts.
Note: I have excluded "Casino Royale". It was one of Ian Fleming's original novels, but it was made outside the sphere of what is normally considered the 007 series. But if you want to voice a vote for David Niven...or whoever else was James Bond in that movie...feel free.
Thread crappers beware--I will not be so kind when my next poll, "Your Favorite Bond Girls", appears next time! :D
That would have to be Pussy Galore wouldn't it?

I think that Timothy Dalton was great, I would rather like to see more Bond movies with him. But I couldn't say he's my favorite, he was good in his own way. I would vote for Connery, Moore and Dalton. They were the best. But I can only vote for one of them, so I choose to abstain. :)

She was not a Bond girl. She was an accomplice to Goldfinger, the villain, if I remember correctly? But surely you only mentioned her because of her name. :):)

I don't think Brosnan deserves silver or bronze, but I think he might get it.

Other times I've brought it up, Connery and Brosnan have usually taken the top two spots. Lazenby sometimes gets a vote...WHY I don't know. Roger Moore just never did much for me, although I can tolerate him more now. (I only have "Moonraker".) I think Dalton got knocked for his Bond portrayal because he wasn't as "warm" of a character.
I think Bond Girl is anyone that Bond has "done the nasty" with, IMHO. But again, we'll cover that later. ;)
Connery just does it for me. He had the cool, suave touch, and yet he could be the efficient and economic "spy" in a flash.
Hmmm..maybe the SECOND best James Bond actor would be a more interesting question. judging by the results.
BTW, Roger Moore was the first Bond I was exposed to. I saw two or three on TV, didn't really get into it, and then in high school (yes, that long), I finally saw the first three with Connery. THAT is when I got into the series. I also saw The Spy Who Loved Me for the first time around that time, and it's still the only Moore Bond I like.

I'm the only one who voted for poor Roger Moore.
Oh well. Moore was the Bond I grew up on, and "Live and Let Die" and "Moonraker" are still my favorite Bond films.
I really like his light-hearted cheeky performances.
Things got pretty stupid near the end, however. "A View to a Kill" just stinks!
But still, I admit that Connery is a bad *** and was great, so it'll be no surprise if he wins the poll.
Dalton was pretty good too, better than Brosnan. Or maybe it's just the crappy scripts that are bringing them down now. More explosions and digital hoo ha, less wit. Typical Hollywood.

I didn't vote for George Lazenby (neither has anyone else yet), but he did appear in my favorite 007 film, that of course being OHMSS. If Connery had been in that one it would have been unwatchably awesome!

Agreed. On Her Majesty's Secret Service was a GREAT film. Speculating how it might have turned out with Connery as Bond that time around is one of the great what-might-have-beens...IMHO. :cool:

Sean was the ultimate BOND. But I do enjoy the Moore and Brosnan films too.

Yep...I believe she was a CIA agent working undercover as a bad girl for Auric Goldfinger.

Hey, is it our fault Pussy Galore's name was the way it was? Certainly not. Therefore, if there is a "Bond Girl" poll, I intend to vote for three girls....Pussy Galore, Pussy Galore, Pussy Galore. Remember, James Bond pictures aren't just movies.....they're a way of life!;)

I'm looking forward to the Bond Girls thread Rudy, so I will avoid all feline comments until then. :)
I feel Connery can't be beat, but he also had the best Fleming novels, the best scripts, and the best ideas to support him (at least for the first four films).
The Moore era is quite hit-and-miss, but I generally feel he did a good job with the material he was given. The Moore films are often blamed for taking the series into a "cartoon" direction, but to me Connery's "Diamonds Are Forever" was the worst for that type of material.
The one idea that never comes up is that Moore showed enormous guts in taking over the part in 1973. It's hard to imagine the pressure and scrutiny that a person would endure replacing Connery (at that time probably the world's biggest star) in that role. It had already destroyed George Lazenby...
It is unfortunate that by the late 1960's the Bond films were on a production line and there was no hope of delaying the new film simply because the script wasn't ready. Timothy Dalton was a victim of this situation to some extent. Brosnan has benefitted from the fact that the producers took five or six years off to recharge and bring in new talent. Plus, MGM/UA is spending tons of money on making the Brosnan films - and it shows up on the screen.

A couple of friends who've read the book have said that their favorite is "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" because it most closely followed the book. I did attempt to read Fleming's earlier novels, but I think I got spoiled by the big screen adaptation, because they didn't quite have the same excitement.
The only two Bonds I really have experience with are Connery and Moore. I haven't seen any of the Daltons, and have only seen bits and pieces of the Brosnan bonds (he seems to do a decent job...but why does he look like such a youngster? ;) ).
Reportedly, one problem with Lazenby was that he was difficult to work with, and the hard time he gave the directorial staff on "OHMSS" more or less got him on the "bad boy" list in Hollywood and he would only do minimal work after this film.
