I was revisiting old favorites, found a new one, and wondered who were your favorites.

I like some older guys Gustave Le Gray (1850's) and the Peter Emerson (1880's). I love three S's Steichen, Stieglitz and Strand from earlier last century. A fairly lengthy list could easily be made but I'll skip ahead to Robert Frank, including later work, as he's never left me...for some reason. I just came across a new (to me) artist in Alec Soth (http://www.alecsoth.com/) who has a very nice site.

And my 16 year old son, who yesterday found an operational Nikon in the back of a closet and is now deep into the process! :righton:

I'm a big fan of the classic Hollywood portrait style. Particularly George Hurrell of the 30's and 40's. A sampling... http://silverscreensirens.com/ghurrell.htm

I always thought that this confluence was a little too perfect. I once saw the original print and was able to see that the picture of the airplane is pasted onto the drive-in screen.

Helmut Newton (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helmut_Newton), the same guy who did the album cover (Scorpions - Love At First Sting) in my avatar.

I'd guess in this forum the right answer is Norman Seef.

Fay Godwin

She has captured many incredible images in the Calderdale area, using storm clouds to great effect...

Emerson's essays as just as good as his photos. :agree:

I love the work of Robert Frank, Paul Strand, and Walker Evans.

Imogen Cunningham, Man Ray, and Diane Arbus are favorites that have not yet been listed.

Edward Weston (already listed) is obviously one of my favorites.

Along with the classics already listed, I'd add Manuel Álvarez Bravo, Robert Frank, Gary Winogrand, and Bernice Abbott as favorites.

This is a hard one to answer because there are so many of them. Ansel Adams, Cartier-Bresson, Richard Avedon, Helmut Newton, Edward Weston, Irving Penn... the list goes on and on.

Frederick Evans

Definitely somebody I need to research more. I read some of his writing this summer, and also saw an original platinum print of his: "Sea of Steps"

Absolutely beautiful
