I was just offered TWO A-77's for $50. Anyone ever own or use one? I have an old Teac, but never messed with it. Seems too good to pass up.

Great machines. I had 3 of them back in the 70's. Some recordings I made on them ended up being released. For $50.00 I don't see how you can go wrong.

Worth that easily, even if some maintenance is needed. Good luck. R.E.

Hi,

Fine machines, well made in the Swiss tradition. Modular electronics on plug-in cards. Built from 1968-1977. Available in quarter and half track versions. Speeds could either be 3 3/4 IPS/ 7 1/2 IPS or 7 1/2 IPS/ 15 IPS. Slower speeds were available as a special order item. Make sure your dummy plug is in the remote socket when not using the remote control (if you have one). Fully professional caliber results can be had out of a ReVox. BIS Records in Sweden used A 77 machines for recording their fine classical albums. If you need assistance, PM me as I am knowledgeable on ReVox machine repairs and operations. If you need parts, accessories, or manuals, Jack Clark at J-M Technical Arts in Nashville has them and he is also The ReVox service guru!

This is a terrific deal ... I have the A-700, a half-track model.

I have three of them, 2 Mk1s and a MkIII.

Take 'em- they are great machines.

Are the PR99's much better machines?

Hi coopmv,

The PR 99 decks are somewhat sturdier in heavy usage like broadcast automation. They also have balanced in/out only (the Henry Matchbox works great for home use). They still owe very much of their design to the A 77/B 77 line. Brakes are more durable on them than on A 77/B 77 decks.

Here is another all-time Revox classic IMO.
