My Sansui Fr-1080 turntable stopped working (the platter does not spin) so I thought there might be a problem with the belt. So I lifted off the platter and I guess I was not paying attention, thinking it would be easy to replicate, but I took off the belt and I cannot remember how to put it back.

Is there anyway for me to figure out how to do this without a manual, since I don't have one? Was the problem that the belt somehow came off or that it is old and too stretched out? I never really had to fix this on my turntable, so many technical aspects of my TT I am ignorant of :o Damn CD induced laziness!

Any help would be appreciated!

Did you determine that the motor still runs?

Yep the drive shaft which using a selector moves the belt between the 45 and 33 RPM sections still is running

The new belt should fit snugly around the platter's underside drum. Lower the platter with the mat off, and one finger extended down through a hole in the platter, under the belt. Once the platter is in place, pull the belt toward the pulley guide and around the motor capstan.

Turntable belts can be bought at Needle Doctor, KAB USA, etc.

Great! Lord Hawthorne, that works and makes much more sense now. Thanks everyone, yes the old belt is worn out and stretched. I'll check out those places to get a replacement

I keep a few new belts in stock for most brands and models of tables. I stock the 23.6" and 21.4" and 20.7". I can send them in the U.S.A for $9.00 shipped each total. Write me if interested. Rolf.

The image is of a smaller belt for tape decks. But is similar except for circumference.
