I have a Sherwood 5000 integrated amp that I absolutely love, but...
after 30 minutes to an hour it's two channels become very unbalanced. By that I mean my midrange either drops significantly in one channel or is boosted in the other. Vocals tend to dramatically shift to the right hand channel but the bass and treble are still present in the left hand channel. At this point all imaging is lost. This happens with multiple sources and I've eliminated speakers and speaker cables from the equation. When I flip channels using that amp's setting, the issue still occurs on the right hand side. Tube swapping has no major effect on the issue and I hear no crackles or pops when this happens.
The amp has recently been to a technician and I've taken it back to recheck the issue I've just mentioned. He hooked it up to a scope and said the frequency spectrum was consistent between channels and that he ran the amp for about 30 minutes.
This amp's sound is worth fighting for in my opinion so I'm not giving up just yet. I believe I've run into a dead end with my current technician. At least I need some more concrete proof for him.
Questions:
1.)Is there a way to use the tape monitor to further pin-point the issue within the integrated?
2.)Is there some simple explanation?
3.)Is there any technician in the Chicago area who could offer a second opinion (Other than Deltronics)?
P.S. This ain't about money, it's about sound.
