In the movie, doesn't his Principal state he would like to see what Ferris would be like in 15 years? A 2001 Ferris sequel would have been fantastic!

Probably the one John Hughes movie I think is near greatness. Done with just the right amount of whimsy, devil-may-care, and making a good point: stop, consider, and enjoy your time here; have a little fun. I don't know if a sequel would work; I suspect the magic is gone. The unanswered mystery--do they get married--is best left there, I think. Too many great scenes and memories, the "Twist And Shout" parade scene easily the best.
You're right the reference to a sequel was there, but maybe it's best that never happens. This one stands on its own.
Unlike RISKY BUSINESS--also very good--it hasn't really dated.

Ya, Ferris Bueller was great, why ruin it with a sequel. Not that a sequel would ruin the original film, but some questions are best left unanswered. Matthew Broderick did a really great version of Twist and Shout too. He almost sounded like John Lennon...

Not to mention that the great character actor who played the principal has recently been charged with child molestation. Yuck!
I agree, Bueller is one of Hughes' best films, perhaps the only one that really stands the test of time.

While not directly a sequel, does anyone remember the awful TV series that lasted I think all of 3 episodes a couple of years after the movie?
I think I watched the first episode in which the kid who played Ferris (in a mockup of the opening of the movie) ripped up a cardboard display of Matthew Broderick as Ferris.
I think leaving it at the movie is best. I never tire watching it when it's on :)

There was another series around that time that was going for a Ferris Bueller vibe called "Parker Lewis Can't Lose". It was much better and lasted a couple of seasons. Neither really held a candle to the film, though.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off" is definitely a high point for John Hughes.

Dan, please be careful here. What actor Jeffrey Jones is charged with is far cry from what you just said.
From CNN.com: the charges against Jones do not involve any sex act being performed or any video or film being taken, according to a statement from the district attorney's office. He stands accused of hiring an umderage male to pose for photographs.

I read where Mr. McCartney saw the movie and like it except for the added horns on Twist And Shout made him cringe.

Thanks for the update, I hadn't heard any new news of this since the initial arrest.
