Well, I sold my Parasound CDP-2000, SCD-777es, Technics SP-10 MKII, Technics sp-25..

But decided to try a cheapy (moneywise) Sony PS-1800A....connected straight to the phono of the Pilot 248B integrated amp (8 12ax7's and 4 7591's as output tubes) driving some PAudio coaxes till my Tannoy HPD385 and RCA cabs arrive.

I am freaking happy!!!! today I played Knopfler's Shangri-LA, Fagen's Morph The Cat (great bass done by the TT), classical RVG engineered LP (Aaron Rosland on Violin), and Knopfler-EL.Harris LP...

Tremendous vocals, lock on bass...I mean..simply put a great combo...

Looks nice Jack. What cart did you install on your Sony?

I am not familiar with any of the gear in your system, but I don't doubt your ears. Enjoy!!

Nice! It looks like nine years from now, you'll finally get a wooden case for the Pilot :D

Err... Are the RCA LC1 speakers in those cabinets not working any more? Those are legendary speakers and should wipe the floor with Tannoy HPDs! If they still work or are possibly repairable I'd give them a careful listen.

The guy I bought the cabs from wouldnt include the drivers, no matter how nicely I asked...:-)

Ah...I see. Understandable he wanted to keep them. I'd never give them up either.

That's a really nice looking TT! Those Audiotechnica carts are usually pretty decent sounding for the money, so not a bad combo at all. I bet that does sound good through the Pilot

Why on earth would anyone ever sell an SCD-777ES? :shake:

I'd agree with Paul. Audio Technica's cartridges are actually rather good.
Glad you're enjoying the sound which is the important thing after all.

Ask the guy who sold it to me....:)

I loved it, but didnt feel like having that much money in one item...they are all over the place where its quite replaceable.

I like what you've done, WHitese...sometimes the simplest, most direct approach is by far the best (less is more in this case)!

Reminds me when I sold practically everything I owned and just used a McIntosh MC250 powering a pair of Klipsch Cornwalls, with an AMC CD8b 24/96 disc player as my only source...aside from my present SET tube setup, the simplified Mac/AMC/Cornwall combo was the closest to musical nirvana I ever achieved in a 2-channel system IMHO!:)

I remember that setup...I like it!

Thanks...it was great! Had I not gone the tube route, I'd still have the MC250. Probably would've upgraded the disc player and loudspeakers anyway, but I most definately would've continued to use the SS Mac!

Regardless to the amplification used, a simplified system like yours (and mine from a few years ago) is IMO the best approach to the cleanest, most detailed sound imaginable. Enjoy your latest setup...it's sweet!
