....could possibly include Am/Fm tuner but not necessary. Prime concern is sound quality over "features" and reasonable price: in the $500- $1K range.
Anyone have or exprienced one that they feel is exceptional? Has to be rather compact, for kitchen or bookshelf, not looking for full size components.
The little JVC systems look smart and sound rather decent for the money:

Actually, these are NOT the models that I am familiar with. Their previous range looked more expensive, with natural wood finish and all;)... these new things are somewhat plasticky.
The ones I heard sounded rather nice, nothing special, but not too trebly or boomy OTOH.

Check out the NAD L40 complete system. Comes with PSB speakers, I think.

You might want to checkout tivoli audio's new system. It is based on the stereo radio, subwoofer and a proprietary CD player. They all are in wood cabinets.

Denon D-M30 System CD receiver and Mission MS 50 speakers. Listed for $449. Stereophile liked it but this info is a couple of years old so this might not be current model.
