A "dynamically balanced" tonearm is one where, in the absence of other forces, the counterweight is tuned to balance the tonearm to be perfectly level. Another force (that is non-gravitational in nature) applies the VTF. Usually, this is a spring.
Examples that I know of include a lot of SME tonearms, including the IV and V, the Dynavector DV-505, and IIRC a couple Micro Seiki tonearms. Tonearms that are NOT dynamically balanced include anything whose VTF is set exclusively by the counterweight, and all Rega tonearms (they use a spring, but only to reduce the counterweight VTF, not to eliminate it).
Can anybody think of some others?
