I just picked up a copy of this flick on DVD at WalMart for $5.88. The movie itself is a bit uneven, but well worth it, if for nothing else than Julie Newmar's swimming scenes! She's so hot.

isn't it "mackenna's gold"?
i only remember because it was the first movie ever to play at our local mall. of course that theater is no longer in existence as it was replaced by a multiplex behind the mall.

A nearby drive-in was a hang-around first and a place to see movies a distant second. I "watched" McKenna's Gold three days in a row in 197X.
Can't remember Julie Newmar's scenes. The only thing I remember is how fake a scene of a donkey and a man over a hanging bridge looked.

Yes, some of the effects were very cheesy, and the editing was a bit rough too. However, the scenery is great (and I don't just mean Julie), with wide vistas of the west.
I never saw this movie in the theater, only on TV, so the Julie scenes were new to me. They're quite nice and fairly revealing for the period. According to the booklet, there was a Playboy pictorial of Julie doing these scenes in the May '68 issue. Wish I could get my hands on that.
BTW, she was in the Batman special on Sunday. Age has taken its toll of course, but you can still see the orignial beauty there.

Supposedly this movie was notorious for post-production tampering by the studio. I know the TV prints are sure choppy, so I've put it in my Netflix queue. It'll be interesting to see if the theatrical print is any more coherent.
