Just thought I would mention the release of "Love American Style" finally coming to DVD in November . I always liked this show as a kid and have been wondering if this would ever be released on DVD .

I saw that. I'd like to see it again (love the theme song), though I'm not sure I actually want to own it. How many seasons did it run?

Great. My husband and I always liked that show. Making a note to add to the Christmas wish list.

Looking forward to this. I remember watching a few episodes when they first aired. Wasn't the original pilot for Happy Days used for an episode of this show?

I loved the show too! As a ten year-old kid, I was forbidden to watch it, but I did anyway.

Wasn't the original pilot for Happy Days used for an episode of this show?
Yes it was! I remember it well.

I believe it lasted 3 1/2 seasons. I have not watched an episode in many years and am not certain that this show could stand the test of time. The show was consciously produced as something "trendy" for its own time and I suspect that it has dated badly. If you have fond memories of it, you might be disappointed by watching it again now.

P.S. Re. 'Happy Days'. I believe that the 'Happy Days' pilot, after being rejected by the three networks, was licenced by the producers to 'Love, American Style', to try to recoup some of its production costs. I cannot remember how exactly it was edited down, especially to fit into the "love" theme of the show. I also cannot remember whether its appearance on the show had anything to do with it being picked up for ABC's regular schedule.

That's one of the shows I watched when it went into syndication--every day, five days a week.

The lead vocal sounds like studio session singer Ron Hicklin.

I believe the Cowsills version of the Love American Style theme was used only during the first season or so. A sample can be heard on this CD (CD 2 Track 21):

The full version of the song is available on Cowsills' compilations:

If you can find the Razor & Tie reissue of the Cowsills debut album, you get "Love American Style" as a bonus track, mastered by Steve. :righton:

Yes it did impact it as it was very popular when it aired. Hopefully we'll see the original pilot here as I don't think it was on the first season set (don't remember and I can't access it at the moment). Since "Happy Days" was a half sitcom I believe that the original pilot was 30 minutes (after commericals) as well.

I used to watch it EVERY Friday night back then. I was a pre-teen and the double-entendre of most of the jokes were right up my alley!

One of the highlights when I was a kid was to stay up late and watch this show. Not sure what it would be like seeing it today.

The version on the sample clip is the way I remember it.

I have The Cowsills 20th Century Masters Millenium collection and the version on there is not as fast and dynamic. Is this an outtake?

Nonetheless I'm all for the DVD reissue.

Loved that show back in the day.
