LOS ANGELES - Merv Griffin is in the Intensive Care Unit at Cedars-Sinai Hospital, according to KNBC News.

Last month, the game-show impresario was hospitalized for a recurrence of prostate cancer, which was discovered during a routine examination.

“I’d rather play ‘Jeopardy!’ than live it,” the 82-year-old Griffin said at the time. “I was ready for a vacation; however, this wasn’t the destination I had in mind.”

Griffin, a former band singer, invented and produced the popular game shows “Jeopardy!” and “Wheel of Fortune.”

Merv Griffin earned a permanent place in my heart with his 1961 record "The Screamin' Meemies from Planet X."

He's one of those personalities, like Jaye P. Morgan, whose TV career eclipsed their music career.

Sad to hear. Whenever I see Charo on a commercial, I think if him (I first saw her on his talk show).

He came up with Jeopardy and Wheel Of Fortune. He's a pretty creative guy.

I hope he pulls through. He's an amazing guy - talents in entertainment and business.

I remember when Devo was on the Merv Griffin show back in the day, performing "Whip It" and "Snowball." Merv chatted with the band between songs and IIRC, also wearing an Energy Dome.

Get well Merv!

The person that created the only game show I can tolerate, and actually love (Jeopardy!). My best thoughts are with him.

I couldn't even lurk anymore.
I'd hear, "Who's that lurking over there? Isn't that Merv Griffin?"

Get well, Merv.

I remember it was 1965 and my parents were watching the Merv show (in B&W) and he introduced a new band with a "new catchy song". It was the Lovin' Spoonful singing "Do You Believe In Magic". First time I ever heard the song or saw the band. Playing live on the show. That was neat.

Remember when he had both Leon Russell and Elton John on the same show? Leon sang "A Song For You and Elton sang "Your Song". A great night.

I hope he recovers.

"...and now, here's the dear boy himself, Meeeer-vin!" - Arthur Treacher

His talk show brings back memories of Totie Fields, Miss Miller (in the audience), a generic Gabor sister, "I've Got a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts", Joan Crawford, Hermonie Gingold, and Israeli singer Aliza Kashi who was usually called the "Gaza stripper", to name a few.

I wish him only the best - I hope it's recovery to an acceptable lifestyle, but if that's not possible an exit with as little suffering as possible.

Anyway Merv, as guest Bob Hope would say "Thanks for the memories".

Have any articles mentioned the date of death? Usually that's part of the obituary.
