It would be interesting to learn why they got rid of the traditional Thorens construction where the turntable consists of two parts, inner hub and outer ring, with the motor driving the inner hub.

The new series 800 have nothing to do with the Thorens school of design and engineering.

Maybe the name and some old stock was acquired to sell new models designed and made by no one from the old company.

So I thought. Well, it is not so difficult to spot a good used Thorens.

Speaking of Thorens, if anybody knows a source in this day and age for a replacement motor for a Thorens TD124, please let me know! A company in Germany used to make them but doesn't anymore; and I've had false leads from Italy to California....
