View Full Version : PSA: VPI said to raise prices on August 13th!
Just a heads up in case you plan on buying a record cleaning machine or turntable as Acoustic Sounds is reporting VPI will raise prices on August 13th.
This may push me to get a cleaning machine soon. :D

When did they announce this? Kind of short notice.

I might have the money if TommyTunes would stop selling me fine records. :D

Just think how much better they'd be if they were clean. :D

Thanks Lee.
I need to get a S.D.S. for my Scoutmaster.

I've been wanting to upgrade from my pro-ject perspective to the Scout for sometime now. I'll be moving later in the year and was thinking of holding out until after the move. Now seeing this I'm starting to get those butterflies in my stomach. Anyone ever compare the pro-ject perspective to a scout?

I have not heard the "perspective" yet but I think TAS may have reviewed it recently or that Sound & Vision issue on analog...

Thanks, Lee. I skimmed through them at Borders and think they reviewed some other pro-jects, not the perspective. But it is basically a souped up version of another of their tables.

I'm thought the same thing when I got the newsletter.

How does one apply fluid with the 16.5? With my Nitty Gritty I can rotate the record with the spindle grip while scrubbing with my disc doctor brushes. It looks like this method would be difficult on the 16.5 due to the lack of a spindle grip and the top mounted vacuum mouth.
You just pour it on in little drops while the machine is off or rotating. No rocket science required.

I'm guessing the Nitty Gritty doesn't have a motorized platter. The VPI does so you have a free hand.
I'm told by my VPI dealer that the RCM will go up to $540 at the price increase.

Stupid Question: You still have to scrub the record with brushes, correct?

Yes. Although I don't really like the VPI brush for scrubbing--it just seems way too hard a material. I personally use the Disc Doctor brush and fluid and I think it works well for my needs. I'm curious about other fluids though....

I suppose I would love to have a VPI machine if someone were to give me one, but for the extra $200, I can spin the rekkid myself on my Nitty Gritty machine.

Or if you have the skill, build one yourself.

I use an audioquest brush to spread the fluid. No scrubbing in the real sense of the word.

Thanks. I have DD brushes for a year or so now and need to get a new bottle. I was thinking about pulling the trigger on the machine and probabaly will in the next day or two.
I noticed DD has a Quick Wash (no rinse) solution for use with machines and have a questions for anyone who might have used it:
Is it just as good or better than the regular solution or should I just get the regular solution?
Thanks

Ok. I finally pulled the trigger along with a bottle of Quick Wash and the 45 adaptor kit. I can't wait for next week. :D Believe it or not but shipping was only $5.95!!
Dugan, I think you will be happy. I hear good things. :)

A bit OT...LeeS, is that a Scout or Scoutmaster in your avatar? And is that a Benz cartridge? Just curious as I have a Scout with a Benz M2.
