I enjoy remastering my own CD-R's from vinyl sources. I have found that with a lot of hard work and a good source, the sound I get beats the officially released CD's sound of the same title. I have a SACD and DVD-Audio player, and I was wondering if it would make sense for me to use them as a sound source. This way the discs could be played in a car, at work, etc. - anywhere a regular CD player is. I know I would have to copy with analog inputs on my Pioneer Elite CD recorder (excellent D/A and A/D converters). Can anyone tell me if this would work, or if I would encounter problems along that way?

Chris,

I don't think there would be any problem going from 2-channel SACD (scad)/DVD-A from analog outs to the CD-R. Theoretically, you're creating a CD from an analog source. I'm sure there will be loss of info from the higher-rez sources but I'm sure you've encountered the same issues sourcing from vinyl.

My thinking is that for some of the titles I want to do, the high resolution disc may be the best quality source available - even better than vinyl in some cases. Plus, no pops or ticks!

Chris,

When you master from vinyl to CD-R, what process do you use? Do you just straight transfer or do some adjustments? I think you'll get some great results from the higher-rez source but you may have to do some tests to hear what's lost on the lower rez CD-R. I guess it's almost like mastering to CD from a format that's much closer to the master tape (yet has most likely been already tweaked for the SACD/DVD-A)...

P.S. Those 2 Doors albums are great...
