I recently had to get a new computer, which has Vista. On my old computer I had Intervideo WindDVD 7 Platinum, which I loved. However, scanning the internet I see lots of posts (Amazon & elsewhere) indicating Intervideo WinDVD 8 (the current version) works miserably with Vista. I don't see anything else generally recommended.

This is a drag, as I generally use the computer for movie watching, & the version of Media Player that came w/ Vista often gets very jerky. (I also liked the various special features of WindDVD & the way it worked w/ lots of file types.) I'm not very technical, so I'm mostly looking for obvious work arounds or brand names.

Thanks in advance!

I use Media Player Classic. Easy to find with Google.

(Just to clarify, this is on XP, not Vista. It claims to work on Vista, though, and it's free so if it doesn't you're not out any money.)

CyberLink's PowerDVD has worked very well for me on Vista, both with DVD and Blu-ray.

I haven't had any trouble with Windows Media Player in Vista, which makes me wonder if your hardware is part of the issues you're experiencing. Perhaps a memory upgrade would also help?

Second VLC. Does not need to be installed, works well, is lightweight and easy to use. And it plays just about everything.
