Wouldn't it be great if CD players had mileometers like cars do, that recorded faithfully exactly how many minutes and hours of music they had played.

If you were buying a 2nd hand player you'd know exactly how many hours it had on the clock. Although you'd have to be wary of unscrupulous dealers 'clocking' machines.

You'd also have a record of just how much listening you'd done on your player - it could be worn like a badge of honour on the forum!

Oh well, just a thought :)

Not sure about CD players, but some DVD players do have that function (and separate counters for DVD and CD sometimes). Sony had that, but you could only see it from the service, not the regular menu

Try Googling around the 'net a bit--you can often find how to get into the service menus if you use the right combination of key presses on the remote.
