I have a Kenwood KD-500 turntable with a Black Widow tone arm equipped with an MA 2002 cartridge. I am a rookie. This set was given to me but it has no power cord. The cartridge has 4 color coded wires(red, blue, green and white) danging free. Can anyone give me instruction on hooking up a power cord (the cheap way, first) to this cartridge? Also, we have another unit. A Technics sl-1650 turntable but can't find information on tone arm. It has a Shure v 15 type 4 cartridge but the needle is broken off. I need to know if you can buy needles separately and , if so, how do you get the cartridge to release the needle. Just looking I can't see any release screw or clip. Any help with these problems will be much appreciated. Thanks, Jim.

you put your first finger across the neck, and then you place your second finger one fret higher on the G string, and your third and fourth fingers one fret higher than that on the A and D strings....

Your reply is to an old guitar picker and that is a major key no matter where you grab the neck. I was hoping for a simpler solution. The Kenwood arm has a dual wire with rca plugs on the ends. Should I get my mojo working?:help:

I was thinking the same thing. :D

Actually, I don't think he's asking about the power cord--since he wants to hook it to the cartridge--but either about the cartridge wires or the RCA cable to the pre-amp. The post's so confusing it's really hard to tell.

Point taken, John-- I've changed it again.

First off, the V15 type IV. Gently hold the cartridge with one hand from the back, and pull the stylus assembly(from the sides) straight out. It should have a Dynamic Stabilizer brush attached. You can probably find a replacement for this one at needledoctor.com.
As far as the headshell wiring, this photo is a basic rule of connection. You have to look at the rear of the cartridge and note the colors, and or writing of the channel and polarity. You have to match these up with the tonearm/headshell wiring.
