I wonder what will happen with the previously-shot interview segments Robert Vaughn did for Anchor Bay last year? The rights to this show are all screwed up, since I think it was owned by MGM-TV, later merged with MGM/UA, then that was sold to Sony, only Warner Bros. retained some rights, and I think NBC and producer Norman Felton are in there as well. I bet there were a lotta lawyers screaming and yelling about this.
"Anonymous E-mail source"...I'm sorry, twice bitten thrice shy.
I'll believe when I see it

agreed. Maybe when I look out the window and see pigs flying, they'll be holding copies of this dvd set and Neil's archives box.

I remember reading (maybe at tvshowsondvd.com) that Vaughn had been contracted to come back to do extras for the new set but that the Anchor bay stuff wasn't going to be used because of the legal tussel between Warner and Anchor Bay.

Not that complicated on the rights. MGM was bought by Turner which is now part of Warner and they own the show.
Wow...finally...ships Nov. 27th and you can pre-order the whole series now! Check out the packaging...AND it includes the original color pilot and the theatrical release, "One Spy Too Many!"

Thats one hell of a price point for a 4 season DVD set.

While I wouldn't mind collecting the whole series if it were being offered at a reasonable price point, my primary interest is in the first season and unaired color pilot (before the series moved into "camp" and started popping 'corn' with the addition of celebrity guest stars on a weekly basis), so I guess I'll have to wait awhile. :sigh:

At that price they should be throwing in The Girl From U.N.C.L.E. as a bonus or something.

I would second pretty much everything you said Cat. I'm really only excited about the first season and I would probably purchase season two at a reasonable price point, but this reminds me of the "Land Of The Giants" set released recently. The price is way out of line at over $60 dollars a season.:(

If they do a great mastering job and I can order season 1, I'm okay. I've watched all my off-air dubs and I'm ready for the real thing. At that price, I'd wait to get the second and beyond seasons. They are intersting to me, not compelling. The first season is television as good as it gets for me.

No, we should pay them not to issue GFU!
For that matter, the slapstick silly 3rd season too...

New Update:

I know that this is supposed to be a great sales tool, and it is indeed ultra 'kewl' looking, but these days I tend to prefer compact sets that can be easily shelved, especially since my living room already looks like a remodeled Blockbuster Video!
This sort of reminds me of that scene in Blow Up where the photographer walks into a club where the Yardbirds are performing in front of a frenzied crowd of onlookers. After his amp shorts out Jeff Beck destroys his guitar (ala Pete Townshend) and throws pieces of it into the audience who go wild to snag a piece of collectible memorabilia. Caught up in the scuffle, the photographer ends up with the broken guitar neck which he takes with him as he's briefly pursued by the fans, but as soon as he gets outside he realizes that the smashed guitar neck which seemed so valuable to the crowd just a few moments before is just a useless piece of wood, so he discards it.

Yes, what you say is true and I dearly love the initial B&W season of The Man from U.N.C.L.E., but after that first GREAT season I distinctly recall the series slowly sliding down hill; by seasons 3 & 4 the series had ventured deep into shark infested waters. Sadly, paying for those remaining uneven seasons, regardless of whose father's brother would have to be mortgaged to make those five easy installments, might just have me yelling "uncle"!
So, I guess I'll just have to wait out the exclusivity deal. :sigh:

That is pretty much the way I see it. I recorded several episodes off the American Life Network, including that cool color pilot episode. Those will have to do when I need an UNCLE fix for the time being. At some point I hope they will offer the first season seperately like they did with Get Smart.

Breaking out just the first season won't help me at all.
I was always a fan of Season 2: color episodes, a much cooler, jazzier theme music intro, and the writing leavened with just a wee bit more humor without jumping off the very deep end as happened in season 3.
I'm waiting for my AMEX credit card cycle to come around so that I can charge this in early December, and have until late January to pay....
I've been patient for years, if it takes another just to get seasons' one and two seperately, so be it.

Well, my brother just phoned from Florida. The Man From Uncle DVDs are available from Timelife.com
http://www.timelife.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10001&storeId=1001&langId=-1&productId=18501
The best news? They've seen fit to offer season 1 for $39.95. This is terrific news, both because of the price and because many of us, as previously noted, are most interested in the first season.
Just thought I'd inform my friends here at the forum.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
