I noticed this coming up for cheap quite often, despite selling now for $10,000 RRP a pair.
My room is of average (European) size - 24m2, with 3m high ceiling.
I can't organize a home demo so if I decide to buy them it has to be in faith. My concern is if four 15" drivers in my room would be an overkill.
Also, I think I read somewhere that DMT series are a bit forward, fatiguing and could be aggressive in the highs. This doesn't sound like Tannoys I remember but I need to ask if anyone heard 215 and what are the impressions.
Cheers, this is my first post - greetings everyone!

Two different versions, the original (which I've heard) and an updated version that I have not heard.
The old one sounds just like a Tannoy. Too big for a small room unless you listen in the near field.
Could be too bassy as well depending on where it is placed in a room..
Not bright sounding at all.

Thanks!
Positioning: 3 m wide apart, firing 4m towards a listener's sofa.
I would love to keep them as close to wall as possible but can sacrifice half a meter. With their 55cm depth that's 1m between the wall and the baffle.
The one I have been watching is 215 DTM II, I guess the second iteration.
What size of the room would you reckon as a minimum? I am not a big fan of nearfield - right now I even use ATC 20 Pro (a classic nearfield) as a mid-fielder (firing 3 m to a listener, 2.2 wide apart).

I have the DMT 15 mkII and really like them. They are not fatiguing to listen to and I don't find them forward sounding when compared to UREI and NHT monitors I've heard. I haven't heard the 215s but my studio designer, Wes LaChot, really likes them and a few of his clients (Mike Mogis for ex.) are really happy with them.

Bass not bloated and ill-defined to you? Had them in a room at Future Disc Mastering and I couldn't "count on" anything from 350 cycles on down.

If you listen to a lot of rap, and have about 500 watts per channel, you will be very happy with the 215...

The 500W comment had to be a joke. Tannoys don't take much power to drive. There are 4 15 inch woofers but they aren't car subwoofers.

I'm powering my Tannoys with a Bryston 4BSST which is a pretty lean, tight sounding amp so the bass response sounds good to me. However, when I've used my Parasound HCA 75 watt amp the Tannoys do sound a little too bassy and boomy.

Bottom line, this is a studio monitor. It needs to be mounted up high and tilted. It needs room treatment and probably a third octave EQ to fix the bass like you would have in a studio.
On the other hand, if you can get a pair for a great price, it can be a fun sound.

it doesn't seem it fetches big sums these days - $1500 or so.
in home conditions i think i would try it first so both drivers are in vertical axis. i guess it would be easier to set it in a normal room rather like this than how they look on the pics, lying horizontal.

A reasonable price!
