Title says it all. Are there any to consider, used or new, below $600 or so? I have a Audio Research LS9 pre-amp that I will be hooking it up to. I am using a Creek Classic CD unit right now. I like it but I thought I might take advantage of the LS9's Balanced Connections if I can find something better than the Creek in the price range mentioned. I see Sony has some older models but I can't much info on them.

Thanks!

Pat

I know last year a cd player came out from China or something called the Eastsound E5. It made a helluva buzz over at head-fi. It has balanced outs and is around $500 I think. You can find more info at www.cattylink.com

I've never heard it mind you, it was just merely a suggestion based on what I've read. :righton:

Actually it's more like $700+. The output stage isn't truly balanced, either. There are opamps in the output stage to make a faux-balanced out. The single ended outs are superior.

That being said, still a really great player for the price.

You'll have to shell out another $300 to get true balanced outs from that player, via the Zapfilter output stage or similar.

Ah, thanks for the correction of info. After I posted I did see that the SE version that has the true balanced connections is around $800.

So maybe a used one....:righton: :p

Anyone have info on a older Sony or Classe with Balanced out's? I think the old Classe's have some issues but I am not sure.

The Eastsound mentioned above is probably too much and I don't see any Adcom or Proceed players currently available. Thanks!

Hi,

Tascam makes an excellent pro unit with true balanced analogue outputs. Bryston's new player has these also. I would investigate one of these. Sony's units really weren't truly balanced line.

Cary makes what you need but I'm sure you would have to buy used.

My employer, NorthernLightFX, is a TASCAM dealer so one can contact the company.

Do you have this CD player and if so what do you like or dislike about it?

Hi Pat,
I absolutely love this player. Adcom dosen't make it anymore, and was and is their flagship player. I think for the amount of money, it sounds superb. Huge soundstage, pinpoint imaging, extremely detailed. It has balanced XLR and RCA outputs, HDCD decoding, double Burr-Brown D/A converters, and a SP/DIF coaxial digital input to utilize it's high-quality conversion, and run any other unit as a Squeezebox, Computer, or media server. I believe the transport is made by Philips. The discrete electronics are Class A. These can be had for around 5-$700.00 used.:D

Thanks for the info. I wonder how it compares to my Creek I have now or if it's worth looking for something different. I am just trying to take advantage of my balanced inputs on my Audio Research to possibly get better results.

Honestly, If you like the way your player sounds, I woudn't get another just for the balanced outputs. How much did you pay for the Creek Classic? i'm only saying this, because I've heard CD players with both balanced and unbalanced outputs, and that alone really isn't enough to warrant getting another, unless you're looking to go a big step up in price and sound quality, from the Creek, IMHO.
