Different Systems (speakers & amps) for different kinds of music?

I know, I know, the "perfect" system is supposed to reproduce any and all kinds of music equally as well BUT we don't live in a perfect world with perfect listening spaces and other parameters that affect reproduced sound.

Due to both financial and space considerations most of us have only one "primary" listening system that we use for our serious music listening. BTW I'm not bringing the Video HT aspect into this 'cause that's a whole different ballgame.

If you had the ability to have a couple of "primary listening systems" for different types of music what equipment (amps & speakers which are usually interdependent) would you get for the "other one"? What would the main types of music for your present system and what types for the other?

I think that the majority of us would still stick with one system even if cost were no factor just to avoid the hassles but, if you were going to do it what would you get?

Forgive the ramblingds of "ancients" but thoughts like the above sometimes rattle around in our heads. :D

But of course! If I could I'd have many systems, but I don't have enough rooms in my house, money in the bank and the most important thing - a wife who knows that when you disappear, that you are doing something important.

A Rock system.

Jazz.

Classical.

Vocals and acoustics.

Small speakers and finest tube equipment for small ensembles (classical and Jazz stuff)

All kind of horns ;) for Rock and Heavy Metal music

For almost exact reproduction I tend to solidstate amplification (Madrigal, Krell or Jeff Rowland) and Wilson Audio Grand Slam loudspeaker system.

Hi,

Well i'm actually heading this direction w/ two channel systems. I will also be having a video surround and possibly an audio surround system. For two channel, i'm gonna use a McIntosh 240/C-20 combo w/ Nestorovic 5AS speakers for vintage music and mid-range heavy music. For more modern and bass heavy music, i'm gonna go with a Rogue Audio tube amp/pre combo w/ the same Nestorovic speakers. My wife will probably be leaving shortly! :laugh:

Jeffrey, as soon as she's gone you want a roomate who isn't quiet, doesn't care if you do the laundry and house cleaning, and most of all comes along with a near complete DCC and MFSL catalogue of CD's?:winkgrin:

If I were to set up a sound system for my basement (with bar, pool table, etc.), it would need to be loud and gut-thumbing with gobs of deep bass. A Klipschorn in every corner would be ideal if I had the room! :D

What I would really like to have is one single system where I could use my separate 2-channel preamp and power amp for music, but be able to switch it easily over to multichannel for home theater use. Without using a separate speaker system.

But I have enough spares around that I could do up a darned nice "party" system for the basement that would still sound like music and not mid-fi mush.
