Two of my good friends gave me a VPI 16.5 for my birthday. We used to call them 'traveling tips' in the aviation community. Do any users of a 16.5 have any tidbits of information that would make using it a better more efficient experience??

Thanks

If you are using it in conjuction with Disc Doctor products, you might check out this thread:

Might be helpful, even if you're not.

P.S. Dennis, there's some lovely filth down here!

Beware of water getting into the pressboard case as it swells and gets ugly. The water may come from the reservoir being too full (<12LPs), or overflow from the record surface.
After about 5000 LPs that is the only fault with my 16.5

John,

You're going to want to have two pickup tubes to start with. Use one only with new or previously cleaned LPs. Use the other start to finish with all the other stuff. I also use a different brush with each cleaning step. Even made a couple of my own to use with used (dirty) records. I also use a squirt bottle of distilled water to flush the strong cleaners off the pick-up wand brushes while it is vacuuming the record. Helps to not carry contaminants on to the next step. PM me and I can give you my number if you want to talk about it. I'm no expert, but I'm getting good results with my 16.5.

Last bit of advice. Be careful because it is easy to bury yourself in second-hand vinyl once you see how playable a lot of $2.00 records are once they've been well cleaned.

Have fun,
Eric
