I was curious as to what people liked about their CD/SACD players regardless of price.
Thanks

I really like the Meridian 808 a ton. Yes, the damn thing was a fortune, but the sound is extremely natural....
And I like that it plays DVD-a's too, but I know that's not a big deal for many people!!

I have an NAD C542, I love the way it sounds, sweet, not harsh or etched. Nice sense of air and space, great soundstage. Great detail and resolution, and it plays HDCD's too.
Truly a bargain considering it was a factory refurb!

It is tube-based and Canadian-made.

You made me look at your profile. :)
Anthem CD1 - HDCD Changer
Mine is the Sony XA777ES player. Seems to reproduce everything 'flat' and is not digital sounding at all (as does my Sony 775 and other players I used to have.)

This Anthem unit tips the scale at almost 30 lbs and I actually prefer it over my Rega Planet 2000 and NAD S500i. I simply like the tube sound and its hefty build.

Exactly what I dig about the Rega Saturn. What a great player.

Glad to hear that! I have an option! If the laser assembly ever goes on mine and there are no spare parts, I'll be in big trouble..... :sigh:

What I like most about my APL3910 is the sound of redbook cds. SACDs and DVD-As sound great too, but the redbook playback is unbelievable.
My Marantz SA-1 is beautiful looking! Plays CDs great sounding as well! Weighs like 50 pounds and expensive 7000 USD back in 2000 or 2001..forgot exact year.

Great sound...Naim CDX2 for redbook and McCormack UPD-1 for everything else.

I've got the exact same player (even the same upgrade version), and agree the redbook performance is wonderfull. I would also add the ability to run this unit direct into a power amp is one of it's strong points. In my case, I eliminated the need of a rather expensive preamp. I found it actually sounds better in my system without the preamp! :).

Mine sounds incredible, very detailed and revealing. Has HDCD, and a digital input, as well.

My understanding is many of the current Sony ES line products are no longer built in Japan but in Malaysia.

Well, apart from the fact that it only cost me £200, I love the fact that it doesn't seem to add anything at either frequency extreme. A good disc sounds good, a cack disc sounds cack. Mind you, it may be atypical for such a modestly priced player, but I use a £40 mains cord and a £100 Chord Solid Silver I/C on it, too. Worth every penny.
Marantz CD5400 OSE, BTW.

Better than I hoped, got to see a bunch of CD players I haven't heard of. Hope to see some more too. Thanks for all of the responses so far.

What I like best about it is I can record LPs with it. It also sounds great.
