I recently purchased an Onkyo A-9555 integrated amp. It sounds awesome! I do have a question, though. The loudness control makes minimal difference when on. It does increase the bass...but ever so slightly. I realize that most don't use this feature at all, but was hoping that possibly another owner of the Onkyo could verify that this is normal for this amp.

BTW, the amp is powering a pair of Axiom M3V2 speakers. The Axiom's sound great with this amp...not harsh at all. A very smooth and balanced sound. I've not heard a tube amp, but from what I've read, this amp is very tube-like in sound...very, very, smooth. No harshness at all; suprisingly, since this is a digital amp. Very impressed with the sound. Cd's which I hesitated to play with my old receiver, sound good with this amp.

Anyway, any owners of this amp who can answer the question about the loudness feature? Thanks!

I've heard this amp at a shop some time ago...I think the loudness control is designed to me more of a "light-handed" approach, unlike most that are extreme to the bass and treble boost.

I own one of these. That is correct that the loudness control is subtle.

Unfortunately, I found the amp underpowered for my application. However, I'm keeping it as a back up for the mighty Bryston 4BSST. I might sell it, I might not.

I have an Integrated Onkyo A-8015 from the early 90's. The loudness is extremely subtle on that also.

Thanks, everyone, for the feedback.

Altho I know what you`ve been thru w/ the Onkyo, I really doubt the Bryston needs a backup. They`re pretty much as bullet proof as an amp can be.

True, but you never know...

The last Onkyo I had was this *huge* silver receiver, a "TX-6000" with the fold-down front panel from 1982. One of the first with a digital tuner.I think it was 100wpc. Had a processor loop, tone defeat, MM/MC input. Awesome. That was a really good sounding unit, wish I had it back!

Sounds like this new one is possibly based off of that.
