Maxi single and EP, how are they distinct

From an ordinary single or EP? We're talking vinyl here.

I'm not sure what you mean,but I think a maxi single would be a A sided single,and a B side,where as a EP has 4 songs on it being a double A instead of A & B sides,if that makes sense.

I think records that are referred to as "maxi-singles" are generally 12-inch singles

"EPs" can be 7-inch or 12-inch, generally 4 songs but can be 5 or 6

some 12-inch releases that are maxi-singles can also be EPs

(also, I don't believe the EP necessarily being a double-A-side by definition is correct)
