It's due out June 5th, I believe. It was issued before as a plain-jane two-fer with VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA. June 5th, both will get special edition releases with extras.

Bought this Tuesday. Best Buy had none here in Arkansas. On-line availability only. Got it at Circuit City.

Picture and sound are excellent. Surround, mono, separate musical score. Commentary, storyboards, trailer all make for a nice package!

I remember seeing this when I was six years old in Oklahoma City. On TV it was modified, and heavily edited! Brings back memories!

Such a useless store, isn't it?

Yeah. The ones in my area are missing alot of the reissues that come out. They can't special order. I remember we had a Hastings a block away and there were price wars. Hastings closed down, and the local BB prices went up about 25%.

This post gave me a brief moment of hope, as I too looked around in Best Buy this week to no avail on FANTASTIC VOYAGE or VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA, both re-released this week with special editions.

So I drove over to Circuit City in hopes that they'd have it. But I looked around, found nothing, asked the clerk who looked it up and uttered those famous words: "We don't carry it." :sigh:

I get that sometimes in that store. Even Barnes & Noble didn't get any in, but they could order it. This time, in CC the salesclerk actually looked it up and pulled it out of the stock cart. Hopefully you'll find it.

I gave up and ordered it online from Amazon. It's not like I needed the movie today, but I'm still a bit stubborn in that if I can find something I want in a store, I'm happier since I get to bring it home, open it up, plop it in the player and get nearly instant gratification.

So, I'll wait a few days or a week or so, and it'll arrive in the mail. That's good too I suppose - just less "instant."

Harry,

That's me. I check around at the stores first. If CC also told me they didn't carry it, I'd order it online as well.

The reissue of "Fantastic Voyage" looks marvelous although some of the images are still a bit soft and blurry to the process/visual effects shots in the film. Overall, though, Fox has done an admirable job. The commentary track features Nick Redman discussing the marvelous music score by Leonard Rosenman (until the score starts where they quiet down so WE can enjoy it--kudos! commentators who know when to be quiet!

We also get a nice featurette on the visual effects with Richard Edlund (and some other guy I don't recall) discussing the difficulty of the visuals, how accomplished they were for the time and, more importantly, the ones that hold up well.

Nice multiple angle view of the 5 ft and 5 inch versions of the Proetus, production drawings and a deleted scene (in script form with storyboards) which would have drawn some of the magic away from the miniaturization scene if it had been included.

I would have liked to see a featurette on the production of the film, casting, etc. but overall Fox did a marvelous job. Oh, and Netflix has it for rent if you want it.
