I recently threw away a bunch of old Audio magazins but first I ripped some pages with interesting articles and interviews. Yes, I know I will regret it someday but I needed the space. Felt like heresy.

In one article (*) the writer mentions a "cant" control for the playback of mono recordings with stereo cartridges. It is simply a pair of ganged audio pots that receive the L and R line-level channels from the preamp so you can select the balance between the two signals. Presumably you can find a sweet spot where the mono signal is best.

They feed the output to a IC to add the lost gain as mid point is the midpoint of the pots.

* Sonic restorations of antique recordings Part I by Michael R. Lane. Audio June 1991.

Might be a good project to add the cant control to it.

The problem is, Pablo, "Pots" are notoriously low Fidelity, so in order to have it work, you would have to spend like 600 dollars to get good enough rotary knobs that wouldn't degrade the sound.

I'm sure some of us here wouldn't mind! A couple of those fancy discrete-resistor pots would look snazzy on an Lp-to-CD setup.

Thanks Steve.
