I was over at my grandmothers looking at her Philco stereo cabinet. It is one of those old kind that come in the HUGE console with the speakers built in and room for records. Anyway, it has a turntable and an add on 8 track. My grandmother says she and my grandfather bought it about 40 years ago. Is it anything to get excited about? I am not sure about the model numbers or anything, but I can check. I also found some old records in mint/unopened condition. Herb Alpert/Tijuana Brass, plus many Columbia special releases/Philco sampler discs with Jeff Beck group, Miles Davis, and Bob Dylan among others. Also of strange interest was a Beatles Greatest hits played by various bands I never heard of. When I first saw it, I thought it was a Beatles album, not an album of Beatles covers. Any value to any of these?
AFAIK, mint condition Miles Davis LPs on the old Columbia label (six-eye or two-eye label design) would be rather valuable. No idea about the rest.

I'm interested in information about those consoles as well. My folks bought two Magnavox consoles over the years. The larger one in the basement is circa 1969, our first ((*stereo*)) (oooh, aaah) in the house. When my mother redecorated the living room, she bought a smaller console to fit in a different location. This newer one didn't sound half bad, actually. No tape player, but each one did have spare tape inputs. The older one supposedly would accomodate a reel-to-reel deck, where the newer one had a cubby where you could insert an optional 8-track or cassette deck.
I just wonder if these are worth anything to anyone. I doubt Dad will ever be able to live back at home (let alone stay alive through this next week--he's in the hospital again), and I do not want to just stick these out at the curb on garbage night. They both work, and the cabinetry is immaculate...nice pieces of furniture. They are heavy, so delivery would need to be local. If we're going to sell the house, or I move into it myself, I'd hate to get rid of them, but won't really have the room to keep them. :(
