View Full Version : Outfits that do it all and do it well?

Has anyone had positive experiences with manufacturers who do it all (source, amplification, speakers), and do it well enough to be on par with those (the majority I think) who specialize in one area? McIntosh, Linn, Naim and Gamut do it all. Some like MBL or Krell will always be well outside my budget.

I'm intrigued by the idea of what could be a very synergistic system.

An all Rega system sounds pretty good. Their speakers are quite good in a small room. Probably Roksan too, although I've never listened to their equipment.

The do-it-all system king for me was AR. An AR TT, receiver, and 18 or 2ax speakers made some seriously good music for it's era.

Yes, I'm sure each outfit I mentioned have been electronics specialists who've branched out into speakers. It does have you feel their mother product is their premium product. I can't think of anyone who started with speakers and branched out into electronics.

Yeah "outfit" seems odd to me as well. "Manufacturer" is an awkward formal thing. I don't know.

"Music box maker"!!! :)

Naim. I'm not that crazy about their speakers, but in an all-Naim system, they sound nice.
Quad. Definitely.
Rega, too.

I believe Tim de Paravicini has joined the club, too.

Burmester and Goldmund have been there for a while.

Me, I like cherry-picking.

Solid, aesthetically appealing and more or less affordable: NAD Electronics!

An entire NAD kit will set you back a bit more than a 'big-box' setup, but it'll also outlast you!

Agree. Bose speakers are at best mid-fi. Its electronics are really nothinig to write home about. A former neighbor returned his WaveRadio in 2 weeks for a refund.

I don't think such company exists, especially among the high end audio manufacturers. I am perfectly happy with matching my components.

McIntosh and Krell fall into this category. While I personally don't care for the sound of Krell, you can assemble a complete A-Z system with all of their components that would definitely be considered audiophile.

And McIntosh, well they've offered a complete line up in both stereo and 5.1 for some time now. And their products are very complimentary to one another.

For a similar amount of money, I much prefer buying speakers such as B&W over those made by McIntosh.

Isn't NAD closely affiliated with PSB (Speakers)?
