I can't talk to my wife about my audio obsession anymore. She just doesn't want to hear about it. Do you have a similar experience?

Feeling your pain over here. Not that I've ever really talked about it at length (seriously), but the silence extends even to discussion of music, unfortunately.
And I work in radio, so this pretty much blows out the "how was your day at work, dear?" talk, too, which mostly leaves the pets and the kids.

Call Dr. Phil. :D
I am surprised that she tolerates the equipment, it is the record collection that she tends to complain about.

Hi taters,
Well, she loves music (plays sax, clarinet and piano and composes jazz) and has an interest in sound (mostly out of kindness to me I'm sure) but isn't exactly an audio hobbyist. ;-}
Then again, she was the one who told me to get the Magnepan 3.6s when I hesitated. "Who should have them if not you?" she asked.
I am very lucky.
Best regards,
Barry

My wife is great. I explained what what she was getting into before we got too serious. She's incredibly tolerant so I try to keep things under control.

Sounds like a keeper. I can hear my wife saying something just like that. How long have you two been married? (he asks wanting to know how long to expect the tolerance to last. :) )

She used to.
One night she said, "Why do you have all those cd's and lp's, you can't listen to all of them at the same time"?
My answer: Why do you have all those ear rings, you can't wear them all at the same time"?
For some reason, she understood after that.........................:)

I try not to bore her to death, but I end up doing so sometimes. She really can tell the difference between a really cruddy sound and a really good one. Sometimes, listening to a great LP or CD actually brings us together. We'll grab a glass of wine and throw on, well, Barry's Houses Of The Holy(sounds strange to type it that way) or one of the Drake Time Life CD's and let the clarity take us away.
Of course, I get the "another one of THOSE?" looks every now and then.

My wife's been very tolerant these past 10 years.
And she's the one that told me to buy the Creedence Clearwater AP LP's even though she knew I had all the SACD's already.
I put up with her PMS (Purchasing More Shoes) too. :p

My wife is my greatest champion of audio and video excess. Guess my answer has to be no....:D

My wife loves music and loves my stereo.

I turned her into an audiophile, so I have no issues there!:) But, she's not obsessed like I am. No one she knows is.

I can think of over 44,000 (and counting) reasons why she would say that. ;)

Thats about how it is here. I nit pick at it and she doesnt say much. If i spent a couple hundred every month,i'd here alot.:D
In the early '90s a friend of mine fix me on a blind date with a girl (very nice body) who worked with her volunteer organization. The dinner date went smoothly and we seemed to get along okay (we worked in the same field) conversation was easy. When I invited her over to my place, she notice I was into record collecting (she knew about my passion for music) and stereo equipment, the first thing out of her mouth was "I see you haven't grown up yet". Rather than to try and explain all the idiosyncrasies of my hobbie I told her to have a good night and never did I call again. So much for nice bodies.

My wife was working in a used record store (and a practicing vinyl junkie) when we met, so we share this obsession.

My GF doesn't care one way or the other so it works out well for me except when she feels I've been neglecting her.
Killer new avatar BTW man. :righton:

My wife doesn't get it either.
Luckily I've had most of my gear for a long time.
I really had to sell her on the idea getting my Denon universal. Then another, tougher, sell job when I decided I wanted to upgrade to the 3930.
I won't get away with anything for awhile now.

Reminds me of when Indy 500/Indycar legend AJ Foyt came out of retirement to drive in the first NASCAR race at Indy (Brickyard 400):
His wife said she'd kill him, if he ever drove again.
AJ said, "Yea she's upset, but my girlfriend doesn't mind!":D
My ex-GF didn't get it. "It is too loud!"
I don't listen to music really loud, just louder than the TV.
Of course, she didn't like my music, except classical, but I also didn't like most of her music - Mariah squealer Carey and Beyoncee (hot-cha-cha!).
My cat, though, loves Coltrane and Muddy Waters on my stereo..... He'll sit dead stereo center and purr.

No problems here! She's the art director for TONE, so we
work with this stuff everyday...

My wife would have been happy with a Bose wave radio........
She's not at all into the audio part as far as stereo goes. However, she does love the HT stuff.
