I have some vinyl in storage and would like to pick up some affordable storage racks of some sort for in my office where the vinyl will be kept.

Can anyone recommend racks that are reasonably priced while storing the vinyl in a way that takes care of it best?

I don't have a ton of vinyl at this point but imagine I might have caught a bit of the bug and will be purchasing a few things here and there down the road.

Everyone hase different tastes of course. But I find this Ikeas series of shelves works really well... and having the different sizes means you get some flexibility based on the size of your collection.

If you live near an Ikea store try the Expedit bookcases. They're very sturdy and are the right size for the records.

These are available from Todd The Vinyl Junkie. You can add as you need.

$100 is a lot for a maple crate. I'm having some custom made with about 2 shelves to start in solid American walnut for under $200.

Also try the Bonde series at IKEA as well. I have the ones with the Birch veneer and it actually looks like real wood.

Yeah, lateral parallel slats, to combat the sagging - that's the stuff! :righton:

I bought a couple of these from bags unlimited. Not the prettiest storage available, but they do the trick.

I have three IVAR shelves, fairly cheap, not too bad looking and are the perfect size for LPs. In my experience the more narrow shelf is the way to go, am always checking the wider shelves' supports.

I had these to begin with but I didn't like the way the albums stuck out from the box. Also didn't like the dark walnut finish. Good to get you started though.

Just moved...I, too, am looking into that Ikea Expedit solution. Can someone please tell me how many it holds?

I would also nominate the Expedit bookshelf cases from Ikea. I recently bought a 4 X 4 black one and it is absolutely perfect for vinyl shelving. Fits vinyl, vinyl boxsets, CD boxsets perfect. They look nice as well. Strong & sturdy to boot. I spent 4 hours last Sunday loading my vinyl into it alphabetically. Now, I can finally find what I'm looking for.

Watch out for those Ikea shelves. They're not the sturdiest things in the world. To hold my 6000 LPs, I had to reinforce the Ikea shelves with metal braces in three places and on the back. Otherwise, they tend to sag over the years.

As an old friend of mine used to say, "gravity takes its toll."

Which shelving units are you using? I don't think the 4 X 4 Expedit shelf I bought could even hold a couple thousand LP's.

I firstly bought the Billy bookcase, and after loading it with a couple hundred LP's, I could see the sag already. The Expedit seems much more sturdy.

Here's the 4X4 Expedit loaded with about 800 LP's. Since this photo I've added about 150 LP's. Time to move to the 5X5, and I'm hoping that will hold me for a few years. I'm getting pickier as I get older, but I like a broader range of music than ever before, so it's catch-22.

I've got the 5x5 and the 4x4 Exedit. These work great and you can even display some albums in the shelves too.

Expedit users, do you put anything on the back of the unit to keep LPs from extending out the back?

Can't go wrong with the Ikea sets; we bought two sets of four bookcases, but they're ideal for LPs. Sturdy, they certainly won't fall over and house plenty of discs. Great choice and reasonably priced.

The Expedit line looks like it might work for me, but is anyone using something similar but with doors?
