Hey folks,
I was wanting to know if there were any types of downloadable programs or even sites where I can just go and disect the music I love.

For example....I'm playing a tune on my pc and I can't really hear what the bass is doing....I want a progam where I can strip down all other tracks and concentrate on the bass.

There has to be some type of program and if so what is best and user friendly.

Not really.

The best you can do with a downloadable software program might be to separate the vocals from a track (provided they are center-panned in the mix).

I don't even think that Pro Tools or Nuendo can do what you want satisfactorily with a finished mix.

Its impossible. The only way you can hear individual tracks is off the multi-track tape. The record you buy contains either a two track (stereo) or one track (mono) mix of the multi-track source. That is what the mixing engineer does. He decides the level of each track, how it sounds and where it goes in the stereo field (if applicable). This is where the art comes in. A good mixing engineer is an artist, and the time and space between the left and right speaker are his canvas.

With that said, there are a number of digital audio platforms (like Nuendo and ProTools) that allow you to track and mix multi-track recordings. However, mixing in the box like this just does not sound the same as mixing on an analog desk. Even though most recordings are tracked digitally these days, they are almost always mixed on an analog desk.

You can get a program that will allow you to split the frequencies so you can hear mostly bass, but it is impossible to separate or un-mix a mixed song.

BTW, to the best of my knowledge only Adobe Audition will let you split wave files by frequencies. I've been doing it for years with it.

Where is this featured in the program?
