Any better portable speakers come out since JBL On Tour?

I've read several good reviews for Harman Multimedia's "JBL On Tour" speakers, which are essentially portable speakers that work with any Ipod/MP3 device with a 3.5 mm earphone jack.

However, despite the good reviews, the product seems a bit out of date, with most of the reviews being from about 2004. Have any other mid cost, portable speakers (the JBL's are about $100) come along in the last couple years that would usurp the JBL's?

Find an old pair of AR Powered Partners if possible! These have 20 real watts of amplifier power at all audio frequencies. They sound a lot like classic AR Speakers of the past. They don't cost too much used in nice shape on ebay or garage sales. Cambridge Sound Works had a suitcase type powered speaker system which was also superb. The JBL On Tour system is still good!
