Telefunkens if possible; for that vintage EL84 sound.
GE's are good and cheap....

Telefunken produced some good high quality tubes, but many of them have become so rare and sought after, that counterfeits have been seen that have apparently been produced in the far east. Be careful with that. They print the boxes, they use a paint on the tubes that can be wiped away easily, they fake the rhombus on the bottom of the tube, just so it looks legit. Only an expert can tell them from the real deal.
I'm using Valve Art EL34s from China. Not quite as good sounding as a Mullard, but rugged and cheap - about $15 each.

He was looking for EL84, not EL34.

EL84's. The little tube that could.
Made famous for being the "sound" of the Beatles' Vox AC-30 instrument amplifiers...
