Just curious, but have you done any work in the past or have any future plans for doing any remastering work for any mutichannel releases on DVD-A or MC SACD?

Yes, as soon as my friend gets his new studio completed out at RTI.
I've done some recent mixes in surround, just for fun, and I have learned a lot.
I was still in school back in the old Quad days, so I never worked in that format, although an older buddy of mine had a Quad 8 in his Mom's car. Since I always sat in the back seat, I got to hear the stuff that was totally missing from the stereo versions of "There Goes Rhymin' Simon" and "Court And Spark". You know, steel guitars, weird rhythm parts, etc. I still listen (in vain) for those little treats in the stereo versions, but they are so buried in the mix, they can't even be heard, just sensed.

1974 was a good year. My friend's mom gave him her car (practically), and this guy would go crusin' and I could hang, as long as I sat in the back. He was in a band, and I thought that was so totally cool. We all had long hair, and I even had a girlfriend (sort of). Good music was out there, and I was having fun.
Can't believe I'm nostalgic for the '70's.

Glad to hear it. We can all benefit from your work in the new formats. As for Quad, you should know that it's alive and well. I have over 200 titles in quad format, in R2R and Q8 and lp. I have a nice Tascam 34B for the reels and an Akai CR-80D-SS quad 8 track player and a full Cd-4 lp setup as well. I agree with your take on the "missing parts". Even the most agressive mixes bring out instraments that you never get to hear in the stereo versions. My favorites are Floyd's DSOTM and WYWH and the Eagles' On The Border and One Of These Nights. That's probably why I like the new Eagles' Hotel California DVD-A so much. You get to hear the acoustic guitars that were for the most part drowned out by the rest of the instraments in the stereo version. FWIW, the two original quads are mixed the exact same way. Very cool.

Nothin' to be ashamed of... Did you like the movie "Almost Famous"? Have you run across any good versions of Stillwater's hits? :D
